Tamkang University (淡江大學)

I'm an English (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, TESOL) graduate student at Tamkang University (淡江大學).  The school is private and located in Danshui, one of the districts of New Taipei City (basically, the suburbs/countryside around Taipei).  It began as an English school, which is what attracted me to it.

The building for the College of Foreign Languages and Literature.
The English department is located on the second floor.
Chueh-sheng Memorial Hall, where I attend the majority
of my classes my classes.

The buildings on campus have interesting designs, and there are many gorgeous trees and flowers everywhere you go.  Taida is also a nice campus to walk through, but I feel like all the buildings there look the same.

I took most of the photos below last August.

The outdoor amphitheater.
The old Confucian-style classrooms which are still in use.

There are a lot of nice sculptures on campus.

The library is quite large and is a good place to study.

I think the education building has a really awesome design!

The girl's dorm.
A wider shot of the dorms.
Some of the professors live here.
There are a lot of dogs and cats on campus,
everyone just lets them be.
Old planes decorate one area of the campus.
This is the on-campus maritime museum.
Can you guess what the building is shaped like?

  1. This is one lovely campus. If I ever summon the courage or self-loathing (I'm not sure which) to go to grad school, I'll have to remember this. How is it academically?

    1. Sorry for the late reply, don't know why I didn't see this sooner!

It is a great campus, and now that it's hot, I'm thankful that water filters are in every building on every floor!

Academically, I think it's pretty good depending on the classes you take. For my field (TESOL) it's good because this school started as an English college. :D

  2. Hey Nicolette! I just stumbled across while doing some research on moving to Taiwan to teach English. When I was reading this post the school looks an awful like where they filmed the TV Show "Devil Beside Me". Have you heard anything about that?
